What is processed sugar anyway? And how it’s made of?

Processed sugar is sugar which has been refined so that it has a regular texture and flavor.

White sugar is a classic example of processed sugar and sometimes referred to as “refined sugar”.

Processed Sugar is made from sugar cane or sugar beets, which are processed to extract the sugar.

Refined sugar is made from raw sugar that has undergone a refining process to remove the molasses.

Is it vegan? The answer is : some processed Sugar are vegan and other are not.

When removing the molasses, some animal derived ingredients are used in the processes like bone char.

So what can vegans do to avoid processed sugar?

High consumption of sugar in general does carry the increased risk of tooth decay, the development of diabetes, and other health problems.

But you can find naturally occurring sugar in the following foods:

  • vegetables
  • grains

These natural sources provide our bodies’ main source of energy, and they also contain various amounts of vitamins and minerals that help keep your body running smoothly.

Instead of adding sugar to sweeten oatmeal or cereal, top your bowl with your favorite fruit.
