Other items in this recipe:

  • 1 cup of almonds
  • Cinnamon (to taste)
  • 1.5 tsp of honey
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • Mesh strainer
  • Cheesecloth
  • Four cups of water
  • Container for the almond milk

Step One: Soak

You will need to place the almonds in water and allow them to soak.

You should let them soak for at least four hours, but it is best for you to let them soak overnight.

Soaking the almond makes it soft and a-lot easier to blend.

Step Two: Spin (Blend)

Once you have allowed them to soak, you should remove the excess water and place them inside of the blender.

After that, you will need to add 2 to 3 cups of water.

Spin the soaked almonds in a blender for about one to two minutes.

Step Three: Sweeten (optional)

If you want flavored or sweetened almond milk, the next step is to add sweeteners the almond milk.

Technically you can add sweeteners with the almonds before blending or after straining.

There are a variety of sweetening options depending on your tastes.

A few common sweeteners include vanilla bean or vanilla extract, cinnamon, cocoa/cacao, honey, pitted dates, strawberries, other fresh fruit, nutmeg and agave nectar.

Step Four: Strain

In this step you will need to remove the almond solids from the milk.

In order to do this, you will need three or four layers of cheesecloth and a mesh strainer.

You will need to pour the almond milk through the strainer.

You may need to use a spatula or spoon to press down on the strainer.

This will allow the almond solids to go through faster.

After the milk has been poured through the strainer, you will need to take the cheesecloth and squeeze it so that you can remove the extra liquid.

You can use the leftover almond meal in the place of almond flour.

You will need to dry it out by putting it in the oven on low heat before you use it.
